The Beauty Of Cadiz..

Spanish-Regions

Temperate coastline, lush natural beauty, and plentiful opportunities for adventure and fun. This is the beauty of Cadiz.

Cadiz is the southernmost province of Spain and the Iberian Peninsula, home to some of the most incredible parks and nature areas of Spain and Europe. Its rich and varied history, combined with an abundance of interesting sites and renowned celebrations, make Cadiz a destination worthy of your time.

Living History: Cadiz City

With over three thousand years of history, Cadiz City has the distinction of being the oldest city in Europe. Founded in 1100 BC by the Phoenicians, it was later ruled by the Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths and Moors. It rose to prominence early in the 16th century as a main departure point for ships headed to the New World (America). It continued to be a center of contentious activity in subsequent centuries, including raids by Sir Francis Drake and Napoleon, as well as occupation by the Republican armies of Francisco Franco

Art, Culture And Festivities

Cadiz is filled with monuments and cultural sites of all kinds, from grand cathedrals to extensive museums to historic theaters. Throughout the province you’ll find delicious cuisine and good conversation at the cafes that abound in the cities and villages. And while all of Andalucia is known for the many carnivals and celebrations, none is more exciting or spectacular than the Cadiz Carnival. It is truly the people’s fiesta, a time of celebration and fun just prior to the 40 days of Lent. Even during Franco’s rule when the carnival was officially abolished, Cadiz continued to stage this most cherished of annual festivals.

Surf, Sand And Sun

Some of the most beautiful beaches in Spain are located in the province of Cadiz. Unlike some other coastal areas, Cadiz has for the most part avoided large scale construction and crowding. The southern coastal area is home to sandy beaches, secluded coves and excellent surfing near Tarifa. Along the northern coastal area, though, the towns and villages take on a slightly different character; many are known for their selection of outstanding seafood cuisine.

Total Immersion Spanish

Cadiz is also known for being home to several educational programs where students are immersed in the Spanish language and culture. Participants come from all over the world to take part in special classes, mentoring, and immersion in the traditions and lifestyle of Spain. If you’re looking for the adventure of a lifetime, think about learning Spanish by living in Spain.
