Tenerife is an amazing destination, whether you go there on holiday or to stay long term. It is the larges of the Canary Islands, located about 1,000 kilometers south of Spain and quite close to Africa. It is known for diverse landscapes, friendly people, and an abundance of unique culture.

One of the notable characteristics of Tenerife is the diversity. To the north lies a rocky coastline that’s also rich with plants and vegetation. The people there still hold strongly to their Canarian culture and traditions, but they also enjoy a modern nightlife. There is a sophisticated feel to the north side of the island, noticeable right away when explore the area.

The island’s interior is rich and fertile. Here you will find large plantations where they grow bananas and expansive orchards filled with almond trees. To make things even more interesting, the interior is also home to amazing pine forests filled with magnificent trees.

At the very center of the island is Mount Teide, a volcanic peak that is the highest point in Spain. It is often capped with snow, and visitors who ride the cable car to the top are rewarded with stunning views. On clear days, it’s even possible to see the neighboring islands of La Palma and La Gomera.

Along the southern coastline the landscape it different yet again. The land in this area is much more desert-like and the coast itself is famous for long, beautiful sandy beaches. The spirit of the south can be felt in the array of energetic nightspots where visitors and locals alike enjoy an active nightlife.

Tenerife is home to some of the most beautiful and restful vacation properties in the world. There is no shortage of things to do, with an abundance of swimming, golf, shopping, and water sports. But if you don’t want to do anything, that’s okay too. There are resorts and property developments that cater to those who just want to spend their days resting, relaxing, and soaking up the sun.

The towns and villages across the island are famous for their fiestas and other celebrations. Each one is a little bit different, but all are unique opportunities to immerse yourself in the Canarian culture. Foreigners are more than welcome to join in the merriment, but it’s a good idea to be familiar with local customs and beliefs. This will help you avoid inadvertently offending your hosts.

Whatever you decide to do or see on Tenerife, you’ll be rewarded with scenic beauty and amazing experiences. If you decide to visit the Canary Islands then Tenerife should definitely be on your itinerary.
