Tradition. Culture. Contemporary style. Exciting nightlife. All of these phrases describe the essence of Madrid, an essence that must be experienced to be truly appreciated. From its location in the center of the Iberian Peninsula, Madrid beckons all who visit Spain to come experience this vibrant, exciting city.

The History

Madrid traces its roots back well before the 16th century, to times when a series of civilizations influenced parts of Spain and many others were poised to take their turn as well. Wherever you go in Madrid, you’re likely to find an assortment of historic architecture and artifacts, along with noteworthy monuments and other historic sites.

Some of the oldest and most interesting structures are the Walls of Madrid, ancient fortifications that date back to the 9th century when the Moors controlled the area. Additional fortifications were added in the 12th century under Christian control, and many of these structures are still in existence as well.

History And Interesting Sites

Madrid has long been one of the most influential cities in all of Europe. It is the home to extraordinary artwork, palaces, churches, and all sorts of other cultural and traditional sites.

For example, the Paseo del Prado is world famous for its collection of paintings from masters like Goya, El Greco and Tizian. If other types of museum are more to your liking then you’ll have no shortage of choices in Madrid. Some of the most popular include the Museum of Horse Coaches, the National Museum of Decorative Arts, and the National Archaeological Museum. Madrid is also well known for its many plazas, fountains, palaces and former royal residences.

Modern Madrid

A visit to modern Madrid is not complete without experiencing something of the spirit of the city. One must-see activity is El Rasto, a huge flea market that occurs on Sunday mornings. Bakers, artisans, merchants, craftsmakers and more can be found throughout the marketplace, immersing visitors in unique sights, smells, and merchandise.

Of course, one of the most famous activities in all of Spain is the practice of bull fighting, and Madrid is home to one of the country’s most traditional bull fighting venues. Las Ventas is truly a remarkable sight with its amazing architecture and sense of history all around.

Nightlife In Madrid

There’s always something happening in the pubs, taverns and cafes of Madrid. It’s traditional to move from place to place, meeting and greeting friends and strangers alike, so most people either walk or use the subway system to get around. It’s not unusual for the revelry to continue throughout the night, so if you’re walking around at 4:00am you’ll likely find someplace where the fun has not yet ended.

In 4 days - our whirlwind trip - and after visiting the key golfing destinations in the immediate vicinity of Mosa (Las Ramblas, Campomar, Villa Martin and La Manga), a quick trip into Murcia, many hours chatting to the Sales Team and being introduced to future Mosa residents, and MANY, MANY beers and Irish Whiskey's later(!) we were hooked! We had a gut feeling that Mosa would meet our criteria. A highly sought after location."
