Your Trip to the Costa Calida....

Spanish-Regions

Spain is a popular destination for British travelers - the accessibility and relatively low-cost airfare to the country along with its attractive culture make it a favourite place to visit. When planning a trip to Spain, many Brits choose the Costa Calida as their destination - and for good reason. The Costa Calida is the coastline of the Province of Murcia in southern Spain, and its many unspoiled beaches and almost year-round warm weather attract visitors from all over the world each year. Spanning 250 kilometers along the Mediterranean Sea, the Costa Calida includes such enchanting towns as Mazarron and Aguila, each offering their own unique attraction for visitors.

Mazarron is famous for its beautiful beaches and peaceful atmosphere. Less developed than many other Spanish beaches, the beaches of Mazarron maintain a more natural feel for tourists who prefer a quieter and less crowded setting for their vacations. Although increasing in popularity as a place to visit - a growing number of British citizens are building vacation homes there - a large part of Mazarron is protected as a national park. This keeps development at a minimum and helps to maintain its small town atmosphere. There is no lack of adventure in Mazarron, however. Its warm waters attract sail boaters, scuba divers, and windsurfers during the summer months, and the numerous golf courses, authentic seafood restaurants, and summer street parties keep tourists well entertained.

A bit more tourist-oriented, the port city of Aguilas nevertheless keeps an historic flavour. Aguilas is home to the San Juan De Aguilas Castle, built in 1579 and still overlooking the old town. The 19th century Church of San Jose still stands in Aguilas, housing the image of its namesake, the patron saint San Jose. Visitors enjoy touring Aguilas beautiful Plaza de Espanas gardens, as well as the towns long established food market. All this, along with its beautiful coves and clear ocean waters keeps the city of Aguilas a popular place to visit when traveling along the Costa Calida.

One should not explore the Costa Calida without stopping to experience the Mar Menor. Known as the worlds largest pool, the Mar Menor is a 170 square km shallow salt water lagoon that is a popular place for water sports, especially for those who are just learning. The lagoon is separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a sandy strip of land called La Menga Del Mar Menor. Close to the Mar Menor are tourist-friendly places such as the La Menga Club, a popular 5-star resort, and the famous La Manga golf resort.

A trip to the Costa Calida, with its many pristine beaches, popular resorts and historic sites, will be sure to bring the British tourist wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.
