Les Fogueres de Sant Joan
Les Fogueres de Sant Joan is a fiesta held at the end of June in Alicante. Alicante is completely transformed at this time of year. Dozens of wood and papier-mache monuments are assembled in the streets throughout the cit. Humorous, satirical and critical open-air plays about daily life are performed. On the night of 24 June there is a wonderful firework display after which all the monuments are set alight, to be consumed by the flames.
La Fiesta de San Pedro
The fiesta of San Pedro begins straight after Les Fogueres de Sant Joan. Colourful processions, fantastic fireworks, live music and dances are just some of the elements you will witness during this fiesta.
La Fiesta de Moros y Cristianos
The fiesta of the Moors and Christians is one of the oldest celebrations in Alicante. It takes place in the first two weeks of September and many districts of the city organize their own processons at this time. For colours, costumes and festivity-and to get a real sense of the history and spirit of the people of Alicante-the fiesta is well worth a look.
